Calgary Farmers’ Market thrives throughout the winter

The Calgary Farmers' Market is one of only three markets that remain open in Calgary throughout the year. Other markets typically shut down in October and open again in the spring. Shops that sell local produce need to be creative to stay in business during the winter months, when local fresh produce is not available.

Vendors at the Farmers' Market have adapted by favouring vegetables such as potatoes and apples, which can be stored in cellars for long periods of time. Also popular are products such as meat and cheese, whose availability is not dictated by the season. By adapting their wares, the vendors stay in business all year long and the Calgary Farmers' Market remains open.
