UFC 149

"REFUND! REFUND! REFUND!"

The crowd chant at the end of UFC 149 was heard throughout the Scotiabank Saddledome after a disappointing night for both the UFC and for local fans.

The event, which drew a $4.1 million dollar gate and broke the record for highest gate at the Saddledome. But as the night wore on, fights started to agitate the fans in the building, including White himself.

"We broke the gate record here, and I'm embarrassed by it. I was excited when I heard, and now I'm embarrassed," White said.

Four out of the five main card fights went to a decision with the Cheick Kongo, Shawn Jordan fight bringing the ire out of White because of the way that both men fought and the way that it was handled by the referees.

At the post-fight press conference White compared UFC 149 to UFC 33. UFC 33 is widely considered the worst event the Ultimate Fighting Championship has ever produced.

It was not an entirely negative night as the undercard provided an exciting display of mixed martial arts, with Edmonton-based light heavyweight Ryan Jimmo tying the fastest knockout record by beating Australian Anthony Perosh in seven seconds. Jimmo netted a $65,000 knockout of the night cheque for his trouble.

"I think that the undercard was awesome, these guys blew it out of the water," White said.

The UFC is planning to come back as soon as next year.
