A perfect storm of financial woes leaves ACAD in a tight spot

Tucked just below the complex of towering buildings that is the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) campus on 16th Avenue N.W. in Calgary, sits the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD). As one of the province's only art and design colleges, ACAD is the main provider of visual arts degrees in the province. Owing to many factors, including an aging building, lack of extra revenue sources and the Alberta government’s post-secondary funding model, ACAD is in trouble.

MRU aviation students set to fly this week while investigations continue into crash that killed two instructors

Two weeks after aviation instructors Jeff Bird, 35, and Reyn Johnson, 64, died in a plane crash near Cochrane, Mount Royal University is conducting an internal review into its flying program. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada meanwhile is moving into the next phase of its investigation into the Feb. 13 accident.

Sunday memorial service scheduled at MRU for one of two aviation instructors killed in Feb. 13 plane crash

Two funeral services have been planned for the Mount Royal aviation instructors who died Feb. 13 when their plane crashed northwest of Cochrane.

Jeff Bird’s memorial will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Bella Concert Hall at MRU. The university communications office indicated the public and media are welcome to attend, with a family spokesperson to be available for interviews after the service.
