Harry Potter exhibition comes to Edmonton's TELUS World of Science

The midnight premiere of Harry Potter: The Exhibition took place last weekend at the TELUS World of Science in Edmonton, attracting Harry Potter fans of all ages into the wee hours of the night.

James and Oliver Phelps—famous for their roles as the Weasley twins in the Harry Potter films—attended the event. News of their appearance generated so much interest that Mike Steger, vice president of marketing and communications at the TELUS World of Science Edmonton, says the staff had to accommodate larger crowds.

"The event was already sold out," Steger says, "but then we announced the twin actors were appearing and had to release a few hundred more tickets."

The exhibition is in the midst of a five-year global tour, having made previous stops in cities such as New York, Sydney and most recently Singapore. The exhibit made its last Canadian stop in Toronto in 2010, but fans are sure to see something different this time around.

"Some of the films were still being shot in 2010," Steger says. "From what I understand, there will be props from the final films that will be on display for fans in Canada for the first time."

The large exhibit arrived a week before the Nov. 22 unveiling, giving staff and crew little time to unpack the sets and props that filled 24 semi-trucks.

"Everyone is really excited, and we've already pre-sold more tickets than we sold during the duration of last year's Star Wars exhibit," Steger says.

Harry Potter: The Exhibition is on display from Nov. 22 to March 9, and tickets are available for upcoming week and weekend showings online.
