Suspect located in Ontario
The Calgary Police Service has charged a man in connection to a shooting in northeast Calgary in August.
Twenty-six-year-old Abdiaziz Yousef Omar was arrested in Ontario on Oct. 4.
He was picked up after a traffic stop according to acting Staff Sgt. Pat Ochitwa of the Calgary Police Service.
Omar is now facing charges of robbery and aggravated assault, along with seven other weapons-related charges.
The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 9, when a 33-year-old man walked into the Peter Lougheed Hospital emergency room suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators allege the shooting was drug-related.
According to police, the victim arrived at a northeast parking lot where he got into a vehicle. Police allege Omar was hiding in the back seat and threatened the victim with a gun. Police say it was during this confrontation that the victim was shot.
Police say an unidentified female driver of the car drove the victim to hospital. Police are still looking for her and are unsure if any charges against her will be laid.
“We haven’t been able to determine what her role was, whether she was a victim or participant,” Ochitwa said.
Omar is scheduled to be returned to Calgary within the week.
