Dubbed the “ultimate crosstown smackdown” in hockey, the fourth annual Crowchild Classic saw the University of Calgary Dinos defeat the Mount Royal University Cougars Jan. 21, with the women falling 3-2 and the men 2-1.

The teams have been top rivals ever since MRU joined the Canadian Interuniversity Sport league. This year, nearly 13,000 fans flocked to the Scotiabank Saddledome, breaking last year’s turnout of 8,882.

Dinos fans were vindicated with this year’s win after losing to the Cougars in 2015. A team of photojournalists from the Calgary Journal captured the rival in pictures.
