smallThe rise of HIV/AIDS in African and Caribbean communities in Canada is an epidemic that community advocates struggle to combat.

Without a cohesive national response to HIV/AIDS in these communities African, Caribbean and Black individuals remain susceptible to the virus because of stigma.

Black immigrants from countries where HIV is endemic are contracting the disease in Canada because of misconceptions and a lack of awareness. African and Caribbean women are at higher risk for contracting HIV, but new awareness initiatives aim to involve men in the conversation of safe sexual practices.
