Milea’s music progressed from classical into something altogether new as he developed his own style. Milea’s career began at age six in Timisoara, Romania and he studied with teachers from Germany and Russia.
When asked about his style of playing, Milea says: “I had the chance to work with great teachers and great pianists from around the world. They gave me the opportunity to find myself because when you’re a pianist you have to be yourself. I don’t want to copy other people; I want to be myself even if I’m playing Mozart or Rachmaninoff.”
Milea started composing his own music in 2012, creating songs which led to two albums: Open Minds and On White…and Black Keys. He gained national recognition during this year’s CBC Searchlight competition.

This annual competition tallies votes from listeners to judge the best up-and-coming talent on the Canadian music scene. Ultimately, Milea won the popular vote and was one of four finalists in this talent search competition, performing his own composition Ireversibil.
Raluca Milea, his wife and manager, says, “I am so used to his sound and playing here it felt different, very different from before.”
Raluca was one of the many people entranced as Teo played his piano on stage during his Bearspaw concert. Many of the listeners had smiles on their faces as Teo poured himself into the music that he is sharing with Canadians across the country.
His month-long October tour concluded with a final show back in his home in Toronto at the Betty Oliphant Theatre. The tour also included two other shows in Toronto, as well as stops in Vancouver and Bearspaw. His next concert is also in Toronto at the Weston Golf Club. Milea is hoping to continue to bring his music to others, including contributions to soundtracks for upcoming independent movies.
