The Mount Royal Cougars took to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday night to battle it out with city rivals, the University of Calgary Dinos, as part of the highly anticipated Crowchild Classic.
The women’s team started off the night by getting an early lead on the Dinos, eventually beating them 3-1.

Photo by Nora CruickshankLater the men’s teams scratched and clawed to stay in their game, with Cougar forward Connor Rankin scoring a last-minute goal in the third period to push the game into overtime. However, the Cougars fell short, losing to the Dinos 5-4 in double overtime.
The fifth annual Crowchild Classic saw an attendance of 11,900, just short of the record 13,000 people who attended last year’s classic.
