The Calgary Stampede grounds were busy Friday with children and their families, including some kids who got a lift on pop’s shoulders through the crowded midway.

The last weekend of Stampede has been about soaking up the summer break. Shows like Trailblazer at the Grandstand are popular, but with Dog Bowl competitions, livestock to see and corn dogs to eat, there’s plenty to check out at the grounds.

Sarah Douglas, from Ontario and staying in Lake Louise, says the Caesar House is where to go.

“We have just been into the food and drinks the whole time,” she said.

One of the gathering places on the grounds is outside the Big Four Building, where you’ll find groups coming to and from the midway.

The Mega Drop is one of the thrill rides you can go on and bison hot dogs are part of the exotic food items you can find.

The  food and rides are not where the midway ends. Max, one Stampede patron, called the event “a lot of fun” after watching the Trailblazer show and chuckwagon racing at the Grandstand.

The Stampede continues until Sunday.
