On Sep. 21, people all over the country took to the streets to demand action against climate change.

Calgary’s demonstration took place in front of City Hall.

The day started with a strike featuring different musicians and speakers and concluded with a parade through the downtown core.
Hundreds of people gathered to show their support.

“I’m losing my voice a little bit from chanting, but I hope to stay and support the cause,” says Olga Efimova, one of many who came out to City Hall.

Lauren Mangion, a volunteer organizer, says social media was a big factor in aiding the turnout. Mangion believes that climate change requires an “act now, not later [mentality],” and that “everyone needs to be all hands on deck.”

Calgary Journal reporter Chloe MacEachern spoke more with Efimova about what brought her to the strike today.
