Chances are if you’re on the Internet, you’ve heard of TikTok.

Tik Tok is a fast-growing social media app where users post short videos ranging from seven to 30 seconds, and people are obsessed with it. The app has over 500 million active users.

There is no question that the popularity of Tik Tok is astronomical, and while many have a cringe-reaction to the app, social media marketing consultant Kayley Reed praises it’s potential.

“To be successful on the app, you kind of have to embrace the cringe, and just recognize that’s what’s trending,” Reed explains. “Tik Tok is a place to either be very entertaining, or very relatable.”

Some people can even get famous on TikTok by accident.

Adrianne Reyes is a student at Mount Royal University who began using TikTok as a bet against his friend that he couldn’t get more followers.

“After two weeks, there was one that got five million views. I think I started a trend with that one.”

But whether you love or hate the app, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. In 2019, TikTok had over 1.5 billion downloads on the App Store and Google Play.
