Southcentre Mall was invaded by zombies of all ages Oct. 25 for the annual Thrill the World – a worldwide simultaneous dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller.
Thrill events take place in major cities around the world. Each year the goal is to set a new world record for the number of people dancing to Thriller. The current record was set in 2009, the year Jackson died, with over 20,000 people across 33 countries participating.
Patricia Organ, 9, and Emma Organ, 6, have been participating in Thrill the World alongside their parents for two years. The tradition is becoming bigger than their Christmas traditions.
"Our favourite part about the dance is the 'booty bounce' and being on YouTube," says Patricia.
Thrill Calgary is a non-profit company that promotes physical activity for Calgarians in a fun and safe manner.
TJ Madigan, director at Thrill Calgary, has been involved with Thrill the World since Calgary joined in 2009.
"Our goal with [Thrill Calgary] is to challenge people of all ages and promote a healthy lifestyle. We ask Calgarians just to bring a non-perishable item that we donate to the Inter-Faith Food Bank," says Madigan.
Anyone can join the dance and you can learn the step-by-step dance for free by looking up Thriller on YouTube. The only thing Thrill Calgary asks is that you donate, be on time and bring some friends.
