Calgary politician remembered as thousands express sympathy and shock across social media platforms

Calgarian Manmeet Bhullar, 35, was struck and killed Monday Nov. 23 by an out-of-control semi-trailer on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway north of Red Deer. Bhullar had pulled over to help a motorist who had lost control on the icy road.
The well-liked Progressive Conservative MLA had served as Minister of Infrastructure, Minister of Human Services and Minister of Service Alberta. Bhullar was credited by many with helping make the reporting of child deaths in provincial care more transparent. The MLA for Calgary-Greenway was also credited with helping refugees flee Afghanistan.
