What started out as a cold Sunday morning on Sept. 25 quickly turned into a warm fall day; perfect for running or walking a few kilometres, or in this case, as far as ten kilometres.
Paddy McGuire is the event director of Calgary’s Heartbeat Run – and explains that the run is a fundraiser “for folks who are suffering from heart conditions.”
The proceeds of the event will not only go towards those affected by heart disease but it will also go towards further research.
Brianne Underwood of the Calgary Health Trust says events like these are needed because heart health research is important.
The run takes place annually and boasts that it is the last great run of the year. Runners experience a scenic course that starts and finishes in Calgary’s southeast Chaparral Valley.
Over 100 participants contributed their time and money to help out the cause this year. Those who participated had the choice of running one kilometre, five kilometres or ten kilometres.
