Evan Enzeo, a 23-year-old DJ from Calgary and a social media specialist for the concert and event company Blueprint Alberta, is an up-and-comer in the electronic music scene. He recently opened for Said the Sky, and K?D and just released his first single called Heating It Up in October 2018.
He explains how he first got into DJing and what it actually takes to succeed in the competitive industry.
“I feel like my passion for this industry started when I went to my first Chasing Summer [Festival] in 2015. I kind of just fell in love with the music and the scene,” says Enzeo.
Enzeo says creating your own sound is one of the most important aspects when becoming a DJ because it’s crucial to make yourself stand out in the sea of wannabe DJs.
“Your music is what separates you from the rest of these DJs out there,” says Enzeo.
“That’s what people want to hear, is your unique sound.”
Gabe Ramsay, the digital marketing manager for Blueprint, says working for the company has helped to give Enzeo an insider’s edge to the industry.
“I think working here especially, is a great place for a DJ to start his career. Just based on the events that we’re throwing and how often we’re throwing those events,” says Ramsay.
“It gives him plenty of opportunity to find himself on stage at one of our shows.”
Enzeo says to budding DJs that even though the music industry can be tough, it’s important to never give up on your dreams.
“If you would’ve asked me three years ago if I’m doing what I’m doing today, I would honestly call you crazy,” says Enzeo.
“I would’ve been like you’ll never be that and stuff like that — but the thing I’ve learned through all of this is if you have a dream, chase it.”
