Paco Erhard’s stand-up show, An honest* History of Bullshit, does not shy away from touchy topics. Religion, abortion, climate change, and racism are all brought up in a fashion that will not only make you laugh, but make you think.

“It’s what I’m interested in,” says Erhard. “I kind of like to go where it hurts and talk about some of the things we don’t normally talk about. Because it’s important.”

Elaborating on his bit about recycling, he says both Germany and Canada only recycle about nine per cent of all plastic; the rest will end up in a landfill.

“It gives us a wonderful feeling that we’re recycling, but that’s worth nothing if the actual effect is something that you can’t bullshit,” says Erhard. “Climate change is happening whether we talk about it or not, so I think it’s important to talk about.”

“At the same time, I think it’s good to sometimes laugh about these things. The best mix is to actually do something but also acknowledge our weaknesses and how difficult it is sometimes to do the right thing.”

If you missed out on his Calgary performance, Erhard show can be seen at the Edmonton Fringe Festival at the Old Strat Perf Arts Centre from Aug.19 to the 25th.
