Anyone who lives in Calgary knows that winter driving is not to be underestimated for being dangerous. Ice, low temperatures and piles of snow make for a difficult journey that can be hard to prepare for.
Calgary Police Traffic Sergeant, Andy Woodward, says that speed is the cause behind many collisions in the winter. The best thing that drivers can do is slow down. This may require planning for a longer commute along with monitoring traffic conditions.
Yohonnes Ashebo, a senior driving instructor at Mckenzie Drivers Education, says winter is the slowest season for the school’s enrolment because the majority of people are scared of the conditions.
Both Woodward and Ashebo emphasis that it’s essential to learn the skills to drive during the snowy season helping to make the roads safer for everyone.
