In a city full of chain coffee shops, one Calgary café is redefining what it means to grab a cup.

Fenyk Coffee & Social, with locations in the northwest and southwest, has become a gathering spot where everything feels local—from the coffee to the people.

Owner Pardeep Sooch built Fenyk from the ground up, often working 16-hour days to create what he calls his “fox den,” inspired by the community-minded fennec fox.

Everything inside the café, right down to the cup supplier, comes from Calgary.

“The point is the money stays here,” said Sooch. “Community is the soul of this business.”

Even Fenyk’s hours reflect that spirit. The café doesn’t have a set closing time, allowing customers to stay as long as they like.

“Nobody’s really pushy,” said Hunter Young, chef at Fenyk. “Nobody’s going to tell you, ‘hey, move along.’”

At Fenyk, it’s about creating a space where people can slow down, connect and feel part of something local. And when the day winds down, the café turns into a true social house—serving drinks and hosting events that bring the community together.

The handcrafted drinks may draw customers in, but it’s the sense of community that keeps them coming back.
