October is filled with Halloween events all around Calgary.

But Fields of Scream stands out for transforming Cobb’s Adventure Park into a massive outdoor haunted experience, offering both family fun and frightening experiences.

Fields of Screams immerses its guests in a chilling outdoor setting, where low lights, scary music and unexpected characters create a sense of suspense from start to finish.

Among the many performers bringing the scares to life are the park actors.

Sarah Johnson, who plays Poppy the Clown, spends the night inside one of the haunted houses, interacting with guests and creating a mix of laughter and fear.

Her goal each night is to make every visitor feel something, turning ordinary reactions into lasting memories.

“Some people laugh, some scream very loudly, others just kind of stand there. I love being able to watch their expressions change from calm to scared,” said Johnson.

Staying in character for seven days straight, says Johnson, can take a lot out of an actor, especially when they have to maintain that role for hours each night.

But like her and many of the other actors, it makes it all worth it in the end.

It takes up a lot of energy, but you always have to perform even when you’re feeling tired,” she said.

This family-friendly event kicks off the Halloween season each year. Attracting thrill seekers who come to experience the park’s haunted trails and attractions.

Many Halloween events feature jump scares or haunted houses.

Fields of Scream includes additional elements.

An immersive environment where visitors can choose their level of fear, whether that’s walking into the maze, the five different attractions of haunted houses, or just enjoying some activities with some food.
