Calgary’s Mount Royal University (MRU) continues to face criticism over what some call limited parking following the addition of an on-campus impound lot.

MRU’s parking and transportation services, in an email statement to the Calgary Journal, says it has “increased parking enforcement practices to alleviate congestion on campus.”

Third-year student Jakob Mills is frustrated with the ticketing and the high cost of parking on campus.

Purchasing an annual parking permit on MRU’s surface lot costs $1,543.50, or users must pay a varying amount for day-by-day use.

“Daily parking can be up to $20 a day, which is insane for someone working on a student budget,” Mills said.

“People working part-time jobs might not be able to afford the kind of moolah that you need to throw down to get this school to let you park your car here.”
