Back2School Vintage will host another pop-up market in Wyckham House here at MRU tomorrow, returning with a pre-Valentine’s Day edition featuring sustainable clothing selections to help students find some new date-night outfits.

The best part, according to the organizer? These purchases won’t bust the bank.

“Sustainability is at the heart of what we do, so it’s like, students can dress in style, and it’s affordable,” said Ray Ejike, organizer of the pop-up market, which is set to run on Feb. 10 and 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

With fashionable and practical pieces sold by various local vendors, the space will be filled with a connected community of students and small business owners. Wyckham House will be buzzing with shoppers looking at jewelry, bags, jackets, and more.

From Y2K to grungy street styles, the vendors will likely have something that fits everyone’s fashion tastes.

Back2School’s vision started with wanting to provide students with access to quality, budget-friendly clothing with the convenience of being on-campus. From there, everything else fell into place.

“We are hoping to expand to doing pop-ups in other schools because I mean, when you look at the trend, it’s actually these guys in university, these kids in high school, they are the ones pushing this vintage Y2K trend,” Ejike said.

“I was once a student as well, and it’s a lot when you have your fees, your school bills chasing you, and you still have to look for clothes. Clothes are not cheap these days, so whatever we can do to make the student’s life better, that’s primarily what our goal is.”

After a successful first-time pop-up at MRU in October, Ejike decided it was time to come back for the winter semester.

“This school pop-up is more like a full-circle moment, I think. I like to style myself and stand out. It’s my way of self-expression, and it’s my way of connecting to who I am. I would always go to flea markets and look for stuff,” said Ejike.

“When you’re in school, it’s a struggle. You’re trying to connect to something; you’re trying to find your identity.”
