Calgary police have charged two men in relation to a series of break-ins and thefts targeting restaurants in southwest Calgary.

It is believed the offenders entered several restaurants between the hours of 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Feb. 18, using aggression to take the cash register before fleeing in a stolen white vehicle.

The targeted locations include Boyd’s Lobster Shop, One Love Caribbean Restaurant, Villages Pizza and Oakberry Acai Bowls and Smoothies.

Officers in different units across the city worked together on the investigation and believe the same suspects were involved in each of the restaurant break-ins.

Later on Feb. 18, police located and arrested both suspects at a home in South Calgary.

The next day, police executed a search warrant at another home and seized evidence they say is relevant to the ongoing investigation.

Charges have been laid against 36-year-old Micheal Christopher Begg and 43-year-old Matthew James Kelly.

Begg is charged with robbery and possession of stolen property, and three counts of thefts under $5,000. He is set to appear in court on Feb. 26.

Kelly is charged with robbery and possession of stolen property, five counts of breach of a release order and four counts of breaching of probation order. He is set to appear in court on March 9.

Calgary police ask anyone with information about these incidents to contact them at 403-266-1234, or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
