Matej Mikes broke the ice early, and the Rebels led 2-1 after the first period. During the first intermission, the minor hockey players skated on the ice.
The Hurricanes fought back to draw even in the second period after a goal by Kayden Longley. After a signal during the second intermission, the fans threw the socks onto the ice, where United Way volunteers collected them.
Both teams scored in the third period, sending the game into overtime after a late snap shot by the Hurricanes’ Owen Berge.
