Young musicians gathered at Knox United Church for an international string gala uniting Calgary performers with a visiting ensemble from Ohio.

The concert featured the Calgary Suzuki Strings Association and the Suzuki Talent Education Society alongside the Upper Arlington Chamber Strings, an acclaimed high school program from the United States.

The event highlights both musical excellence and cross-border collaboration among young performers.

Orchestra director Gretchen Ryder Zunic, who worked closely with students in preparation for the performance, highlights their commitment to the music.

“Their dedication to music and the hard work they showed in rehearsal and performance speaks volumes about their discipline.”

For many performers, the experience offered a rare opportunity to share the stage with musicians from another country.

Second violinist Jacob Strossa says one piece in particular stood out to him during the performance.

“I love the folk tune era. I find that piece really beautiful, that’s the one that stuck to me. We first performed it I think at a winter concert and I loved playing it then and I’m very glad we played it back for the show,” he said.
