Nearly 500 riders from across the world competed this past weekend in British Columbia’s Elk Valley in the debut of the first-annual Transrockies’ Fernie Singletrack 3.

Friday morning kicked off with stage one, which featured a “mix of flow, tech, and signature loam” in Fernie, B.C.’s Montane and Ridgemont mountain bike trail networks. Riders wound their way “through lush forest singletrack, open meadows, and classic rolling climbs.”

Stage two – a point-to-point race, began Saturday morning in Sparwood, B.C. (long track) and Hosmer, B.C. (short track) to the heart of Fernie. The endurance race featured a “mix of fast forest roads, remote singletrack, and alpine-style climbs.”

The series of races concluded on Sunday with stage three at Fernie Mountain Park’s trail networks, featuring a climb to Fernie Alpine Resort before returning to the city’s Nordic Centre.

Thirty-one-year-old Victoria B.C.’s Peter Disera took home top honours, finishing all three stages  17 minutes better than his nearest competitor.

Eighteen-year-old Hugh McDougall of Fernie, B.C., took first place in the Miner U20 division.
