Since Feb. 10, locals and visitors have been able to immerse themselves in a four-course dining experience led by the world’s smallest chef.

Le Petit Chef at The Dorian hotel uses cutting-edge 3D video projection technology to bring a six centimetre animated chef to life, guiding customers through a carefully planned meal.

This interactive dining experience combines the art of storytelling with culinary talent, giving guests a riveting show at their tables. The menu includes delicious dishes including a caprese salad di burrata, a creamy bouillabaisse, Alberta’s well-known AAA beef striploin, and a rich crème brûlée for desert.

This original concept originated in Germany and is now available at 64 restaurants in 30 countries, and has finally made its way to Alberta.

The Belgian artist collective Skullmapping created Le Petit Chef’s animations, which add a layer of magic and fit nicely with the hotel’s concept inspired by Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Ian Jones, The Dorian’s general manager, emphasized the hotel’s goal of offering lasting memories that inspire wonder and creativity.

“Since the hotel opened in 2022, we have been working to position ourselves as a place for one-of-a-kind experiences that prompt imagination and wonder,” Jones said. “We can’t wait for Calgarians to enjoy this delicious culinary experience for themselves.”

The experience will be available at The Dorian’s Bistro Novelle on Wednesday through Sunday evenings. With only 40 seats available per show, early reservations are recommended to secure a spot. The experience costs $129 for adults and $65 for junior diners, ages 5 to 12.
