Whether you’re learning a new skill, or mastering an old one, the Sundre Seniors Supportive Living Facility shows how the classroom has no age limit.

The Supportive Living Facility hosts a mixed media art class in the building’s day-use area. Led by a local artist, participants can learn techniques including watercolour painting, stamping and sketching.

Laurie Lewis, the event’s coordinator, says the centre has been a great way for seniors to socialize and build relationships.

“With some of the education programs that we bring in in the evenings, this room would be full  of chairs and packed with people,” said Lewis.

In addition to the art program, the drop-in centre offers classes such as financial and estate planning, personal directives and long-term care sessions.

Although the centre is a place for seniors to engage in activities, class participant and Sundre community member Dolores Dercach says program positively impacts senior health.

“It’s anti-isolation. It gets people out of the house and gives people the opportunity to focus on something outside of themselves. That strengthens the community, it makes us stronger.”
