Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he “can’t wait to defund the CBC and sell off the headquarters for housing.”

“I’m going to do it,” Poilievre repeated in a December interview. “Very quick.”

On Tuesday, Poilievre declined to provide a timeline for defunding the public broadcaster but said his position was clear, “and it hasn’t changed.”

“We’re going to defund the CBC,” added the Conservative Leader.

The Free Press’ Rupa Subramanya and Max Fawcett, with Canada’s National Observer, debated the possible end of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in front of an audience of more than 100 people at Mount Royal University (MRU) on Wednesday night.

Gabriela Perdomo Páez, a journalism professor at MRU, moderated the debate hosted by the Faculty of Business, Communication Studies and Aviation.
