Mounties say the body of a crane driver who crashed into a northern Alberta river has been recovered.

Work is still underway to pull up the crane, which went over a highway guardrail and into the Wapiti River just south of Grande Prairie on June 16.

RCMP previously said a strong current prevented divers from immediately searching for the body.

Police have not identified the driver.

Cpl. Mathew Howell says the public is still being asked to avoid using boats or flying drones near the site.

He says an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
