Hello Calgary Journal Subscribers!
Welcome to the very first spring (third winter) edition of our lovely newsletter. With it comes new editors, myself, and Charlotte Holmes. We’re looking forward to being here and can’t wait to show you what we have in store for the summer.
This month we have lots of compelling stories and collections of photography like:
- The lens: artistic elements — a collection of portraits and landscapes taken by MRU journalists
- Providing for animals in need: The Palliative Paws Program — a local program to support animals in need
- 10 Activities for your May Long Weekend Planning — a handful of great ideas of places and things to checkout this weekend
- Picnics and pints: Calgarians will be able to toast in public parks this summer — cheers! Calgarians are now allowed to sign up for picnic tables and toast the summer with alcohol
And more, including They were loved, an on-going collaboration between Macleans Magazine and Canadian journalism schools to tell the stories of the people we’ve lost due to the pandemic.
If you haven’t had the chance to check us out on our socials, check us out here, and our new weekly news dump over on Tiktok. Scroll down to hear about our monthly challenge and enjoy.

May Monthly Challenge:
This month we want to hear your feedback and opinions on some of the stories we’re sharing. Did you have a story you absolutely loved, or find a story you want a follow up on? Was there something that stood out to you that you wish the author could hear? Take a moment and leave a comment on the story, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Now’s your opportunity to share your opinions and voice on the matter.
If you’re at a loss for what to say, consider if any quotes stood out to you, if you found the story had suitable sources or if you wished there was another angle not covered in the story. We want to hear from you! If you want to directly get in touch with the reporter of a story, their contact information is in the byline, and don’t be shy – they’d be happy you took the time to engage with them and their stories.
By participating in this monthly challenge, you are helping to bring attention to stories that deserve attention, and are acknowledging the hard work our journalists have put in this month, so thank you in advance.
