Hello and welcome back to another weekend newsletter!

It’s that time in the semester where long study sessions for finals are becoming a reality, and MRU’s Crystal Koch is back in our emails, asking us to complete teaching evaluations.

As MRU students and this group of editors gear up for the final academic stretch of winter, here’s a recap of some lighter news from this week:

Earlier this week president Trump visited Graceland, the former home of Elvis Presley. After an employee informed the president that Presley had trained in Karate, Trump jokingly replied, asking, “Could I have taken him in a fight?”

American Rapper Afroman, famous for songs such as “Crazy Rap” and  “Because I Got High”, has become a main topic of conversation on social media after he won a defamation and privacy lawsuit filed against him by seven Ohio sheriff deputies

The lawsuits were filed after Afroman used video footage he had collected from his home for music videos, following the 2022 raid, during which no charges were filed.

One of the most notable videos was produced by the Rapper following the raid called“Lemon Pound Cake”, which features footage of a sheriff’s deputy glancing at a cake on the kitchen counter. The song goes on to allege that the deputy had turned off his camera and indulged in a slide show of the “evidence.”

April Fool’s is next week, and we are looking forward to seeing what pranks people come up with this year—within reason, of course.

Here in the Calgary Journal newsroom, our social media editor, Mia Smith, has been showcasing her incredible video editing skills in our recent Instagram Reels. Speaking of which, if you don’t already follow our Instagram, you should absolutely go check it out here.
