A pleasantly unexpected twist to a common dessert

Plain vanilla cupcakes can be boring, even with a tasty icing to top them off.

So for the next time people come over, why not add a hidden twist and amaze their taste buds with a delectable sugar jolt to remember?

Impress your guests, family and friends with a concealed treat inside the cupcake.

Recipe makes 12 cupcakes.

Ingredients for batter:

  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 2/3 cup of milk
  • 12 Reese’s peanut butter cups

Ingredients for icing:

  • 1/2 cup of melted butter
  • 2/3 of cocoa
  • 2 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1/3 of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a medium bowl, whisk butter and sugar together, beat one egg at a time into mixture. Mix in vanilla.
In another bowl, mix in flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Slowly add to the wet ingredients; stir in milk.
Place 12 cupcake tins into a muffin tray, place one peanut butter cup into each. Fill each tin two thirds with batter, bake for 18 minutes.
Icing directions:
Mix the melted butter and cocoa together, alternate adding the powdered sugar and milk. Stir in vanilla.
