Broken City, a local music venue and bar, is putting their best foot forward in helping to create a vibrant and inclusive music scene. Rockin’ For Dollars is an event they host every night that welcomes any act from any genre and gives them 15 minutes on a stage — while also giving the acts a chance to win cold hard cash.
Event host and creator BJ Downey has a strong passion for local music, and hopes to grow the community by giving a space for performers to meet other members of their community. This includes helping develop artists’ music to be as polished as it can be.
“You’re making new friends, you’re seeing new bands, you’re getting your band name out there, and bands are getting their first legs in the music scene. It really is a magical evening,” says Downey.
