Red poppies are dotting lapels across the city today for Remembrance Day 2019.

Remembrance Day, originally known as Armistice Day, has been held since the end of the First World War to honour those who have died serving our country in war.

Calgary Remembrance Day Events

Around Calgary, events and ceremonies are taking place to honour the soldiers.ere are a few you can attend on Monday:

The Field of Crosses ceremony takes place on Memorial Drive between 3rd Street NW and Centre Street. The Ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. and more information is available fieldofcrosses.com

Canadian Pacific Remembrance Day Celebration will be at CP Memorial Square in the south east, the ceremony starts at 10:40 a.m. More details about the event at cpr.ca

Remembrance Day at Battalion Park in Signal Hill starts at 10 a.m. Details are available at calgary.ca.

The Remembrance Day Service at Fort Calgary is in the Burnswest Theatre at 10:30 a.m. Information can be found at fortcalgary.com.

At North Glenmore Park, there will be a military parade from the park’s west entrance, hosted by the Canadian Forces starting at 10 a.m.

There are other indoor events and memorial services around the city, and outside of these, people will be honouring the two-minute silence at 11 a.m.
