The developers behind The Campus of Currie Green, a community for older adults in Calgary, just broke ground on their latest building.
The state-of-the-art medical facility will include 24-hour medical attention, residential units, a memory care wing and palliative care services.
More than a residence
The Advanced Medical Building is part of the Statesman’s group community of buildings in the Southwest, designed to offer Calgary’s ageing population a wide array of services that go beyond rental residential units.
Davenport House, the first building at the Campus of Currie Green, opened last August with a focus on physical wellness and building a community to support older adults in maintaining a good quality of life.
The second building, Alexandria House, opens later this year. Both buildings offer independent and assisted living.
Cindy Hay, the Executive Director at the Campus of Currie Green, says she looks forward to the construction of the Advanced Medical Building, which is expected to commence later this year.
The facility will feature a surgical unit and new advancements in medical technology, including AI-powered software focused on patient care that enables direct communication with doctors and patients.
Hay says residents will have access to the services in the Advanced Medical Building, and non-residents will be able to access them through a subscription model.

The Statesman Group of Companies, the business behind the Campus of Currie Green, is betting on the idea of community living as a desirable model for aging in the city.
The company aims to recreate the feeling of being at a university campus, where learning and socializing happen effortlessly. The model helps address the growing issue of isolation amongst aging adults, which worsened after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wellness beyond walls
The development welcomes people as young as 60, and residents have access to numerous amenities and businesses, including a hair salon, lounges, fitness facilities, a sports court, a library, restaurants, and a rooftop patio.
Robyn Neufeld, Recreation Director at The Campus of Currie Green, is committed to enhancing the sense of community. Neufeld helps residents transition to their new life, which she acknowledges can bring up big emotions for seniors.
