A strong storm system swept through south-central Alberta, with at least one tornado confirmed to have touched down.

The Northern Tornadoes Project says one twister touched down in Rocky Mountain House, between Calgary and Edmonton.

The group, a collaboration between Western University and ImpactWX,   says there are reports of some damage, but nothing has been verified.

They say a team will be sent into the field on Sunday to gather more information.

Alberta had been peppered with severe thunderstorm warnings on Saturday, well into the evening hours.

Environment Canada says the risk of thunderstorms returns later Sunday afternoon, but no alerts or warnings have been issued yet.
