The final teams on The Amazing Race Canada headed to Alberta for a showdown in Cowtown on Wednesday.
The reality competition took contestants from coast to coast, travelling through seven provinces and 20 cities.
The season’s final leg put the top three teams to the test as they took on a series of challenges tied to the Calgary Stampede.
The first Roadblock, a challenge that only one team member can complete, took place at Calgary’s GMC Stadium.
The venue hosts several Calgary Stampede events, including the Grandstand Show, chuckwagon races and rodeo.
Married couple Eamon Fitzgerald and Rebecca “Bec” Moroney were the first to leave the challenge, hoping to win the finale after claiming victory in two legs earlier in the season.
Special delivery in Inglewood
The next challenge brought the teams to Smithbilt Hats.
Each team had to memorize an order of cowboy hats for five local businesses in Inglewood before delivering them to Donut Party, Recordland, Stash, Plant Shop and The Silk Road Spice Merchant.
Brothers Michele and Matteo Bruzzese took the lead during this challenge, looking to build on their underdog run after reaching the finale without winning a single leg this season.
McMahon Stadium, in the city’s northwest, hosted the next challenge, where the Outriders, the Calgary Stampeders’ cheer team, cheered on the racers as they attempted to score a field goal using a T-shirt cannon.
The final two challenges tested the teams’ memory and resourcefulness.
Racers first had to learn the steps to a Calgary Stampede marching band routine before heading to Heritage Park, where they searched for items representing each leg of their race.
And the winner is… *spoiler alert*
The final stop brought the three teams to Spruce Meadows, which hosted the Masters international show jumping competition days before the final episode aired.
While the finale remained neck and neck throughout the race, identical twins Christina “Tina” and Elizabeth “Liz” Liao were the first to reach the final pit stop.
The pair spent much of the season at the front of the pack, finishing first in five of the race’s 10 legs before ultimately winning The Amazing Race Canada.
Fitzgerald and Moroney finished second, while the Bruzzese brothers finished third.
Reflecting on their time on the race, Matteo Bruzzese said the experience gave them a new appreciation for Canada after moving here from Italy 14 years ago.
“We never had a chance to experience how beautiful Canada is,” said Matteo Bruzzese. “At a time where everyone is divided, this is the time to be united, to come together. Canada is one of the greatest countries in the world.”
