Wellness Services recently hosted Grow Your Faith, an event where students built terrariums layer by layer as a hands-on metaphor for growth.

“Putting your hands in the soil and walking away with something that reminds you that life is dynamic, that we’re dynamic beings, and we’re all kind of on a journey of growth,” said Monique Verhoef, MRU’s multi-faith and spirituality liaison.

Verhoef added that the terrarium is meant to be a visual reminder of that journey — a small, living metaphor students carry with them as they grow through their time at MRU.

“Students are exploring new things and trying to figure out who they are, so we want to support every aspect of students’ holistic person,” said Verhoef.

Students not only get to keep their terrariums as a memento of their time at MRU, but they also have the opportunity to talk to faith representatives about the support available on campus.

“Religion and spirituality is a really important part of people’s well-being and often connected to their sense of belonging and their sense of meaning and purpose,” said Verhoef. “I think those are all really core parts of building well-being on campus, but also for the individual.”

Wellness Services continues to offer events throughout the year like Speed Friending and Farm Fun.

You can find a list of upcoming wellness events on MRU’s events page.
