Rare books, documents, letters and images from famous evolutionary biologists are on display this fall at the U of C’s Nickle Galleries.

The exhibit, named All Netted Together: Charles Darwin, Alfred Russel Wallace, and the Social Life of a Theory, is curated by Annie Murray and Lusine Petrosyan and features material from the university’s D. Hall Darwin-Wallace Collection.

Amongst the items on display for visitors to see is an original offprint of Austrian biologist Gregor Mendel’s Versuche über Pflanzen-Hybriden (Experiments on Plant Hybridization) published in 1866, a ticket from Darwin’s funeral and a first edition of his seminal work On the Origin of Species.

The exhibit is open to the public, is free of charge and runs from until Dec. 12 at the Nickle Galleries, located in the Taylor Family Digital Library.
