After a tightly contested race, Jeromy Farkas has been elected Calgaryโ€™s next mayor. Final unofficial ballot counts were completed Tuesday morning, confirming that Farkas narrowly edged out rival candidate Sonya Sharp. Sharp received 90,480 votes, but Farkas pulled ahead with 91,065โ€”a margin of fewer than 600 votes. On Tuesday afternoon, Sharp announced she plans to seek a recount.

Incumbent Mayor Jyoti Gondek conceded defeat before midnight on Monday. Her loss marks only the second time since 1980 that a sitting Calgary mayor has not been re-elected.

A total of 348,626 Calgary residents cast ballots in this election, a decrease from the 393,090 people who voted in 2021.
