VIDEO: Lusine Harutyunyan says stories only report on Caucasian demographic
It’s not often that we think about the media that we ingest.
After all, it’s everywhere – from newspapers to our cell phones to television to Twitter – and most of us live lives that are too busy to allow for an abundance of critical thinking.
Lusine Harutyunyan, a multimedia developer at Bow Valley College, wants to change that.
After moving from Armenia to Calgary in 2005, the former broadcaster began to notice that local media often does a poor job of representing all the various ethnicities in the city.

Instead of telling stories that involve Romanians, Chinese and Nicaraguans, Harutyunyan contends that daily news often resorts to reporting on one specific demographic of the population — Caucasian.
