Synaptic is a rehabilitation center for people with spinal injuries and neurological disabilities. The center has created something unique with their five-kilometre and 10-kilometre races called ‘Run, Ride and Roll for Recovery’, which took place on Sept. 24 in Calgary.
Synaptic executive director Uyen Nguyen says, “What we’re doing here today is to come together as a community to support this population in their quest for a better quality of life.”
Synaptic supports the disabled community by giving them an avenue to exercise. Brandice Thompson was one of those given the opportunity to participate.
“I think it’s a great way for us to get out and be active especially with adaptive equipment like the hand cycle,” Thompson says.
The second annual event, much like the first, successfully raised around $10,000 from ticket sales and online donations. Companies like Earl’s Restaurant and New Balance were also present and volunteered to help out at the event.
