Cloudy skies and cold temperatures that opened up into light snow didn’t dampen spirits at the first-ever Parkdale Petfest on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018.

“There [was] a lot more people than I thought there’d be,” said sponsor and vendor Jennifer Dooley, who expected a low visitor-count due to the weather.

Plenty of attendees looked on as Okotoks’ Tomlin Trick Dogs successfully kicked off the event with a skateboarding border collie, paving way for a cannabis discussion with Montgomery Village vet, Dirk Dekens.

Tammy German, the event director for Parkdale Community Association (PSA), said plans for next year’s festival are well underway, noting that strong community support is what keeps them going.

“We wanted [Parkdale Petfest] to be affordable and inclusive … while we definitely had first-time learning, we plan to move ahead,” German says.

Calgary Journal videographer, Sam Nar, captured highlights from this year’s event in September.
