Valentine’s Day is next week (yes, this is your reminder to buy flowers and chocolates now), and the city is full of fun Valentine’s and winter-themed events. Treacherous roads?
This week’s freezing temperatures and snowfall may make for beautiful scenery, but it has made some treacherous roads. Since Monday, more than 600 collisions have been reported to Calgary Police, so driving safely in these conditions is crucial.
To stay safe on the roads, police urge Calgarians to drive carefully, with safe practices such as:
- Clearing all the snow off your car and making sure your lights are working before driving
- Slowing down! 35 per cent of fatal collisions last year were caused by speeding.
- Travelling with an emergency kit
- And, of course, calling 911 to report serious collisions.

Why did you want to go into journalism?
I’ve always had a passion for writing and sports. When I was 10 years old I won a contest where i got to be the junior reporter at a hockey game and I fell in love with it!
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m an avid reader and crocheter. I also enjoy watching sports and Netflix.
What was your favourite piece you’ve written for the Calgary Journal?
My favourite piece by far was my piece on concussions with Dale Earnhardt Jr.
